Living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) often means being caught in an exhausting loop of intrusive thoughts and repeated behaviors. For many, traditional medications and talk therapy alone aren’t enough to bring meaningful, lasting relief.
At Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center in Franklin, we use low-dose intravenous ketamine infusions to help patients break free from these cycles and experience rapid, measurable progress.
Many individuals report significant reductions in both obsessions and compulsions within hours of their first treatment—a timeline far faster than conventional approaches like SSRIs or CBT, which can take weeks or longer to show effects.
Research shows that OCD involves hyperactivity within a specific brain circuit known as the cortico-striatal-thalamo-cortical loop, which fuels the rigid, repetitive patterns characteristic of the disorder.
Ketamine works by inhibiting NMDA receptors, causing a controlled release of glutamate in the prefrontal cortex and other relevant brain areas.
This sudden neurotransmitter activity activates AMPA receptors and the mTOR pathway, stimulating the formation of new neural pathways. In simple terms, ketamine “resets” stuck brain circuits—creating a temporary window of flexibility that allows for a break from obsessive thinking and compulsive behavior.
Your care begins with a full evaluation at our Franklin clinic. We’ll review your medical and psychiatric history, current treatment regimen, and specific OCD symptoms to develop a customized care plan.
On infusion day, you’ll rest comfortably in a private treatment suite while ketamine is administered through an IV over a 40-minute period.
Throughout your session and for an hour afterward, our trained clinicians closely monitor your vital signs and response to ensure safety and comfort.
Our goal is to create a calming, professional environment where you feel supported at every stage of the healing process.
Ketamine for OCD is often most helpful for adults whose symptoms have proven resistant to at least two rounds of standard treatments—such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or exposure-based therapy.
We also work with individuals whose compulsive behaviors are significantly affecting work, relationships, or everyday life.
Because ketamine can cause short-term changes in blood pressure and mild dissociation, we conduct a full medical screening, including cardiovascular assessment, before beginning treatment.
When used under expert medical guidance, many patients experience a 30–50% reduction in OCD symptoms after just one or two infusions—a life-changing difference for those who have tried everything else.
Most patients begin with an “induction” phase—two ketamine infusions per week over a span of three to four weeks.
Once symptoms begin to improve, we adjust to a personalized maintenance schedule, usually with one session every three to six weeks.
To enhance and prolong the benefits, we strongly recommend combining ketamine with ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
These therapeutic approaches make the most of ketamine’s neuroplasticity window, allowing patients to replace entrenched behavioral patterns with healthier coping mechanisms.
Under our strict medical protocols, side effects such as temporary increases in heart rate, mild nausea, or a brief sense of “floating” may occur. These are typically mild and are carefully monitored and managed by our clinical staff.
Unlike recreational ketamine misuse, which carries risks to bladder and cognitive function, our dosing remains therapeutic and conservative.
We schedule regular check-ins to monitor your progress and adapt your treatment plan as needed—ensuring every step is safe, effective, and tailored specifically to you.
If you’re ready to free yourself from obsessive thoughts and compulsive rituals, Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center in Franklin, TN is here to help.
Our expert team will guide you from initial consultation through each ketamine treatment session with care, compassion, and a focus on results.

Most patients experience noticeable decreases in obsessive thoughts and ritual behaviors within two to four hours after the first infusion—an impressively fast timeline compared to conventional treatments that often take weeks.
While results vary, many individuals report symptom relief lasting from one to three weeks following a single infusion. Starting with a full induction phase, followed by periodic maintenance sessions, helps ensure more durable outcomes.
Some people experience mild dissociation or a dream-like sensation, but you’ll remain conscious, communicative, and under constant observation. These effects typically wear off within an hour post-infusion.
Ketamine is typically used alongside your existing therapies, not as a complete replacement. However, as your symptoms improve, your care team can help reassess and potentially adjust medications over time.
Not at all. We welcome patients from across Tennessee and the surrounding region. Many travel to our Franklin location for their induction phase and return as needed for maintenance infusions—with virtual follow-ups available in between.
