For countless individuals living with chronic Lyme disease, the struggle doesn’t end with the completion of antibiotic therapy. Instead, they face a different kind of challenge—ongoing symptoms such as fatigue, joint or nerve pain, brain fog, and mood instability that persist long after the initial infection is treated.
At Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center in Franklin, TN, we recognize how complex and life-altering these lingering symptoms can be. That’s why we offer a unique approach to support patients coping with chronic post-Lyme symptoms: medically supervised IV ketamine therapy, carefully tailored to each person’s experience.
It’s important to note that ketamine is not a cure for Lyme disease itself—it does not treat the infection. However, for individuals dealing with post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS) or other long-term effects, ketamine may offer profound relief by targeting the neural pathways involved in pain, mood, and cognition. When administered in a safe, structured setting, ketamine can help interrupt the brain’s chronic pain signals and lift the emotional weight that often accompanies chronic illness.
Many of the symptoms associated with long-term Lyme disease stem not from ongoing infection, but from inflammation, nervous system hyperactivity, and immune dysfunction. This can lead to a state known as central sensitization, where the nervous system becomes hypersensitive, exaggerating pain signals and emotional responses.
Ketamine works by blocking NMDA receptors—key sites in the brain involved in processing pain and emotion. By doing so, it reduces excess glutamate activity, a neurotransmitter that is often overproduced in people with chronic inflammation or nervous system dysregulation.
This reduction in glutamate allows the brain to regain a degree of balance. It also encourages synaptic plasticity, the brain’s ability to form new connections. These new pathways can support improved emotional regulation, clearer thinking, and reduced perception of pain.
At Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center, many of our patients report that ketamine helps diminish widespread aches, ease mental fog, and lift feelings of anxiety or depression—especially when other treatments have failed to provide consistent relief.
Although research on ketamine for chronic Lyme-related conditions is still developing, current findings and anecdotal reports point toward ketamine’s potential to “reset” the nervous system and help individuals regain control over their bodies and minds.
Your ketamine therapy journey begins with a comprehensive intake consultation at our Franklin clinic. During this first appointment, we’ll review your medical history, Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment timeline, current symptoms, and overall health profile. This information helps us determine if ketamine is a safe and appropriate option for your specific needs.
If you’re a candidate, we’ll schedule your first infusion in a private, serene treatment room designed for comfort and calm.
Each ketamine session involves a sub-anesthetic dose delivered intravenously over approximately 40 minutes. You’ll remain conscious throughout, often entering a relaxed or lightly dissociative state. Many patients describe a feeling of floating or calm detachment, which typically subsides within an hour of the infusion.
Throughout the session and the post-infusion recovery period, our medical staff will closely monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, and mental state to ensure your safety. After your infusion, we’ll talk through your experience and assess how you’re feeling, helping us shape your future treatment sessions accordingly.
Ketamine therapy may be a promising option for adults who have already completed the standard course of antibiotic treatment but continue to experience persistent, disruptive symptoms.
You might be a strong candidate if you suffer from:
We perform a full medical and psychological evaluation to ensure the treatment is appropriate and safe for each individual. This includes cardiovascular screening and assessment for any conditions that could complicate ketamine therapy.
As always, we recommend that ketamine be part of a broader treatment strategy that may include counseling, nutritional support, or integrative medicine.
Many patients experience simultaneous improvements in pain levels, mood, and mental clarity—addressing the most common and disabling symptoms of chronic Lyme disease all at once.
Ketamine’s ability to enhance neuroplasticity may help lift persistent low mood, alleviate anxiety, and counter fatigue, allowing patients to feel more emotionally stable and mentally energized.
By targeting NMDA receptor activity, ketamine can help down-regulate hyperactive pain pathways and neuroimmune responses that contribute to post-infectious discomfort.
Unlike conventional antidepressants or pain medications, ketamine often produces effects within hours to days, offering rapid symptom relief and renewed hope for patients stuck in treatment-resistant cycles.
We customize every treatment protocol to reflect your unique symptom profile, lifestyle needs, and health status—adjusting dosage, session frequency, and follow-up care for optimal results.
If the aftereffects of chronic Lyme disease have left you feeling stuck, isolated, or overwhelmed, you’re not alone—and you’re not without options.
At Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center in Franklin, TN, we specialize in supporting patients facing long-term challenges with compassionate, science-based care.
